Sometimes you just have to go through life Cowabunga! style. Wiktionary says that “cowabunga” was used in the 1950s and 1960s by surfers as a declaration of enthusiasm and delight. Being a California beach gal, I love that!
To celebrate the end of school, graduation, Father's Day, summer vacation, longer days and summer nights, I want to invite you to remember the old adage: the best things in life are free. This month make the effort to nurture your friendships, your romance, children, your health, animals and everything else you love and cherish. Take time to laugh and smile and enjoy yourself. I’m sure you’ve probably heard this many times, but it's important to enjoy the time that you have in this life because you just don’t know how long you have.
This past month our family unexpectedly lost a dear friend. He was happy, fun-loving, always had a kind word to say, made time to chat with everyone, was active, and most important, always had a smile on his face. I always remember him laughing. This man truly enjoyed his life. Not to say he didn't befall on hard times, but he took it in stride and kept a positive outlook. I don't recall him ever being in a bad mood. Sadly, he went to bed one night and didn't wake up the next morning - he was only 42. One day he was here and the next he wasn't. When he was alive he knew that I did mediumship, so the day after he died he visited me and my beloved to offer us comfort about his passing. Even though I saw and heard him in spirit, it didn't take away the sadness of knowing his bright smiling face won't be walking through our gates anymore. We miss him.
One of the greatest gifts of his passing is that he's reminded us to appreciate life now - to simply live for life's sake. Since his death, I make the extra effort to smile more, make my friends and loved ones even more of a priority, and when I'm talking with someone I make sure I'm completely present. I've also allowed the little annoyances in life to be just that - little annoyances that are easily forgotten. His passing reminded us that the best things in life are Free. The only currency required is Time. So this month I invite you to live your life Cowabunga! style.
Intense love does not measure, it just gives.
