The highly spiritual month of December bestows the gift of feeling increased love, good-will and generosity for those around us. I love this time of year because there's both an expectation and a freedom to be nice, kind, and loving to others. I adore the lights, decorations, the food - everything. If you're an empath you probably enjoy this time of year too because the sweetness and kindness everyone is sharing just feels better.
If you're an Empath you're actually considered a highly sensitive person. The spiritual definition of being an Empath is the ability to FEEL the exact feelings of others so strongly that you can often mistake them as your own. It isn't until the Empath has removed himself from the situation or person to realize that the feelings he was feeling weren't actually his.
Empaths are also notorious for internalizing others feelings and emotions as their own which creates a host of problems such as high anxiety, upset stomachs, headaches, depression, insecurity, unsettledness, confusion, and more. If an Empath continues to be saturated in an unhealthy emotional environment at home, a relationship, a social group, or even the workplace over a long period of time they'll 99.9% of the time develop depression, anxiety, begin to self-medicate, and engage in other self-sabotaging and disconnecting behaviors all in an attempt to "numb" themselves from feeling so much.
Feeling what's going on around you is not unhealthy. What is unhealthy is the negativity going on around you. When you're uncomfortable you're just having a natural response to an unhealthy situation. It's NORMAL to be uncomfortable around an unhealthy person or unhealthy environment. Your empathy is God's gift to you and nature's way of letting you know that something is off.
If you're an empath you've probably blamed yourself for being "too sensitive," "weird" or "different," or you may even feel you're not strong enough to deal with the rest of the world. This is simply not true. It's essential to accept yourself for being an Empath and to learn how to manage your empathic filter so you don't become overwhelmed by others' aches, pains, moods, and negativity.
Of the many beautiful qualities of being an Empath, you're probably a deeply spiritual person who has an expanded view of Life. You want to feel connected and you can sometimes feel to sense of Oneness in your profound moments. There are many ways for Emapths to manage their energy. The following tips can help you manage your energy when you're surrounded by others.
1. Center Yourself. It's important for Empaths to know what feeling centered feels like. Being centered feels peaceful, serene and clear of thought. When you master your ability to remain centered, you'll immediately recognize when you've been destabilized. You'll be able to pinpoint exactly who, what, why when & where pulled you off your center. This is an empowering life skill for all empaths.
2. Raise Your Awareness. Become aware of and take notice of your empathic triggers. When you know what puts you into empathic-overdrive you'll be able to put yourself back on track much quicker. Pray, meditate and practice relaxation techniques to keep you balanced and aware of where you're at and what's going on around you.
3. Move from Unconscious Empathy to Conscious Empathy. Self-awareness allows you to know what puts you in empathic-overdrive mode and you'll learn more about who you are and how you operate. You'll be able to work through your self-limiting beliefs which will empower you to manage your energy and live consciously, interactively and deliberately with the world around you. You have a more peaceful existence contributing to your quality of life.
